Event Description

🌄 Cheddar Gorge – A Stunning Day Adventure

Cheddar Gorge is one of England’s most dramatic natural landmarks, carved deep into the Mendip Hills near the village of Cheddar in Somerset. This impressive limestone gorge is home to the famous Cheddar Caves, where archaeologists discovered Cheddar Man, the oldest complete human skeleton found in Britain, dating back around 9,000 years. Even older remains from the Upper Late Palaeolithic period — around 12,000 to 13,000 years old — have also been uncovered here.

The caves were shaped by an ancient underground river and are filled with striking stalactites and stalagmites, creating a unique and atmospheric environment to explore. The entire area forms part of the Cheddar Complex, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest known for its rich geology, wildlife, and archaeological history.

This location offers breathtaking scenery, fascinating history, and unforgettable walking routes — perfect for a guided day trip with Halal Camp Adventures. We’ll explore the gorge together, enjoy the views, and take in the natural beauty of the area. Please note: Entrance to the caves requires a separate day ticket for those who wish to visit them.
